Fenerbahce’s €50m bid stalls as club denies France talks
Fenerbahce have officially denied that any members of their football committee are in France for talks with Olympique Marseille, countering the Turkish club has put forward a bid close to €50 million for former Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood. The statement was released this evening amid swirling speculation about the player’s next move.
Rumour mills suggested that AS Roma were preparing their first formal offer for Greenwood, valued at €45 million including add‑ons. Such a proposal would position the Italian club as a leading contender in the ongoing transfer saga.
Turkish transfer expert Yagiz Sabuncuoglu claimed Fenerbahce had submitted a new and improved bid approaching the €50 million asking price. He also reported that two unnamed Fenerbahce figures had travelled to France for face‑to‑face discussions with Olympique Marseille.
In response, Fenerbahce issued a formal statement this evening stating, “This statement has become necessary due to the repeated dissemination of inaccurate transfer news to the public in recent days and the systematic attempt to mislead Fenerbahce fans.” The club asserted that no football committee members were currently in France for negotiations.
Despite the club’s denial, Sabuncuoglu continues to insist that director Feridun Gecgel is in France this evening for talks with Marseille. The persistence of these claims keeps the transfer narrative alive.
If the denial holds, it may give AS Roma additional time to finalise their own offer for Greenwood. The Italian side could therefore sharpen its position without immediate competition from the Turkish giants.
