Felice Mazzù set to return as KAS Eupen manager after OH Leuven exit

After his dismissal from OH Leuven, Felice Mazzù is set to return to coaching at KAS Eupen. The 60-year-old Belgian coach is the preferred candidate to replace Bruno Pinheiro at the Challenger Pro League side.

Multiple outlets, including Sudinfo, report that Mazzù’s appointment is imminent unless a last-minute change occurs. The move would see him leave OH Leuven, where he was relieved of his duties weeks ago despite keeping the club in the top flight.

KAS Eupen, currently competing in the Challenger Pro League, has struggled to regain a Pro League spot since their relegation in 2024. This season, they finished seventh in the regular phase and missed the promotion playoffs.

Mazzù’s potential arrival marks a second attempt by Eupen to hire him. In March 2024, the club tried to appoint him following Florian Kohfeldt’s departure, but Mazzù declined due to loyalty to Sporting Charleroi, whom Eupen were set to face in the relegation playoffs.

Now, with the circumstances changed, an agreement is expected to be finalised soon. Training for the new season is scheduled to begin in early July, with the league kicking off on 14 August against Jong Genk.

By signing Mazzù, KAS Eupen aims to replicate the success of Union Saint-Gilloise, who returned to the top flight in 2020-21 under his guidance after 47 years away. Eupen have been in the lower divisions since their relegation in 2024.
