FC Nantes gain edge as rivals lose key defenders after break

Under the floodlights of the Stade de la Beaujoire, the Nantes squad gathers as the international break draws to a close. Coach Gregory Poirier will soon meet a rare advantage – both Stade de Reims and Dunkerque will be missing key defenders (Victor Mayela and Armel Zohouri) – a boost after the break.

Opponent suspensions tilt the balance

Dunkerque will be without central defender Victor Mayela for its clash with FC Nantes after the international break. Mayela was sent off in the last match before the pause, a 2‑0 win over Pau, and received a two‑match ban from the LFP disciplinary commission. He will therefore miss the fixtures against Annecy and FC Nantes. Stade de Reims will also be missing Armel Zohouri for its trip to Nantes on Saturday 10 October, and Dunkerque will have a suspended player when it meets the Canaris a week later.

These absences give FC Nantes a clear advantage. The NANTES side will FACE two opponents each lacking a key defender, and Gregory Poirier’s men will look to capitalise as they chase a rise up the Ligue 2 table.

The boost comes after a 3‑1 defeat to Le Mans in a recent friendly, a result that left the club silent for more than 24 hours and sparked frustration among supporters.

With the disciplinary setbacks affecting both rivals, Nantes hopes the situation will help sustain their momentum and further their climb towards the promotion places.
