FC Bayern’s former keeper backs Tresoldi as future European star
Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer, now with Club Brügge, has praised his 22‑year‑old teammate Nicolo Tresoldi, saying the striker can become a top European forward. The endorsement comes as the Belgian side prepare for their Champions League visit to Inter Milan on Wednesday.
Champions League preview in Milan
Ahead of the Wednesday night fixture, media in Italien have focused on Sommer and Tresoldi as the two personalities shaping the narrative. Sommer is highlighted because he guarded Inter’s goal for several seasons before moving to Club Brügge, linking him to the host city.
Tresoldi, the current captain of the German U21 side, has also been linked with the Squadra Azzurra as a potential attacking option. He has already spoken with both German manager Jürgen Klopp and Italy’s new coach Roberto Mancini, but says he will decide after the junior Euro next summer.
Sommer declined to comment on which national team Tresoldi will ultimately choose, stating, “Don’t ask me which national team he will decide for; that depends on him.” He added, “Tresoldi can without any doubt become a European top striker,” describing his right foot as “humble and professional.”
Club form and transfer interest
The striker joined Club Brügge in 2025 for a €7.5 million fee from Hannover 96 and helped the Belgian side clinch the Jupiler Pro League in his first season. His contract runs until 2029, and this campaign he has already netted six goals in ten league appearances.
He provided an assist in the 2‑3 opening defeat to Aston Villa in the Champions League and scored a penalty in the 4‑1 away win over RAAL La Louviere, putting the score 3‑0 at the time.
Recent weeks have seen his name linked with Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, underscoring the demand for the prolific centre‑forward across Europe.
