FC Bayern extends contract with Christoph Freund until 2029
FC Bayern has taken another step in its long‑term leadership strategy: sporting director Christoph Freund has extended his contract until 30 June 2029, after Max Eberl and Jan‑Christian Dreesen had already extended their terms to 2029, thereby securing continuity in the record‑champion management.
Following Max Eberl and Jan‑Christian Dreesen, the club has now also tied down the next key figure for the long term. Both contracts were already extended at the end of August until 30 June 2029, ensuring that the record‑champion’s executive suite remains stable for several years.
Extension of Christoph Freund
The new employment contract for Christoph Freund runs until 30 June 2029 and therefore replaces the previous agreement, which would have expired in summer 2027. This binds the 49‑year‑old Austrian to the Munich club for another six years.
Trust and Goals
Freund arrived in the summer of 2023 from RB Salzburg to Munich and has since taken responsibility for transfers and talent development. “I am very happy to be able to continue contributing to the further development of FC Bayern,” Freund said after the signing. Executive board chairman Jan‑Christian Dreesen emphasized that Freund plays a central role in all sporting decisions and that the expectations since his appointment have been more than fulfilled.
For Bayern president Herbert Hainer, the contract extension was only a matter of time. He explained that Freund has a good eye for developable talent and that his work at the Bayern Campus has already delivered measurable progress. The new term spans a significant period for the club and underscores the confidence in the link between the first team and the youth sector.
By securing Freund, Eberl and Dreesen, the record champion continues its strategy of ensuring long‑term sporting leadership. The continuous filling of key positions is intended to guarantee that Bayern remains at the highest sporting level while also fostering young talent optimally.
