FC Barcelona seeks free full-backs – Raum and Mitchell

FC Barcelona is planning to strengthen the full‑back position next summer and is focusing on free players. According to Sport, the Catalan club is monitoring the free market, with David Raum of RB Leipzig and Tyrick Mitchell of Crystal Palace in particular being considered as possible free agents.

Barça seeks free full‑backs

The club does not want to spend much money and therefore relies on transfers without transfer fees. The strategy was confirmed by Sport, which reported that the Catalans are intensively scouting the free market. Currently, the scouting focuses on players whose contracts are expiring.

Raum in FC Barcelona’s sights

David Raum, a 28‑year‑old German international and captain of RB Leipzig, has so far not held any talks about a contract extension. He recently expressed dissatisfaction over a lack of appreciation, which fuels rumors of a departure in 2027. A possible link is Hansi Flick, who knows Raum from his time with the German national team.

Mitchell as a possible option

Tyrick Mitchell, left‑back of Crystal Palace, is also a free agent in Barcelona’s focus. The English international is being watched for his defensive stability and his offensive qualities. As with Raum, a move to Barça could secure his playing time in the Spanish league.

Current left‑back line at Camp Nou

This season, Joao Cancelo has been used as left‑back, while his deputy, the young Xavi Espart, also occupies the position. Both, however, are natural right‑backs and have a weaker left foot. Alejandro Balde, the only natural left‑back in the squad, has so far received only twelve minutes of playing time.

Barcelona’s frugal approach of signing free players contrasts with the uncertain future prospects of Raum and Mitchell, who both are seeking new challenges.
