Portuguese sporting director Deco confirmed that Barça's offer had been rejected by the Colchoneros, who refused to consider the departure of their striker. “The idea was to bring in a very mobile number 9, capable of linking play, and Julián was part of that. That was not possible, even though we made an offer,” the Barcelona official said.

Blaugrana reshapes its priorities

Long touted as the Blaugrana’s main offensive priority, the Argentinian international no longer features in Deco’s plans. The club has therefore looked at other options, notably the profile of Gabriel Jesus, who also matches FC Barcelona’s expectations.
