FC Augsburg wants to sign Mert Kömür for around €20 million

FC Augsburg is asking around €20 million for the 21‑year‑old attacking midfielder Mert Kömür, a player that Club Brugge sees as a possible successor to Christos Tzolis; the German‑Turkish is still under contract until 30 June 2029. His market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at €12 million, while Turkish club Beşiktaş also shows interest.

Financial demands of Augsburg

Augsburg sets an asking price of about €20 million, possibly supplemented with performance bonuses and a percentage on a future resale. These terms stem from the contract of Kömür until 2029 and his current market value of €12 million, according to the latest update of 27 May 2026. Beşiktaş could be willing to pay a fixed amount if the bonuses and the resale percentage are attractive.

Mert Kömür was born on 17 July 2005 in Dachau, is 1.84 metres tall and holds both German and Turkish nationality. He went through the youth academy of TSV 1860 München before moving to FC Augsburg in 2019. Augsburg then guided him from the youth teams to the first team.

Kömür made his professional debut in April 2024 against Hoffenheim. A month later he became the youngest scorer ever for Augsburg in the Bundesliga, according to the competition. Since then he has firmly established himself in the squad.

The German with Turkish roots has played for various German youth teams and currently belongs to the German U21 national team. His international experience strengthens his profile as a potential top midfielder.

In the 2025/26 season Kömür played 28 Bundesliga matches, scored two goals, provided four assists and logged 1,464 minutes of play. In the current campaign, after four appearances, he has yet to score a goal or register an assist and has played 108 minutes.

Why Brugge wants Kömür

Club Brugge has already had Kömür on its radar as a possible successor to Christos Tzolis, who recently left the club. The combination of his young age, Bundesliga experience, U21 status and a contract until 2029 makes him attractive for a club looking for a direct attacking replacement. However, the high asking price means that a potential transfer would be an investment of a completely different scale than a classic replacement.

For Augsburg, the combination of contract length and market value justifies the requested €20 million, while a successful sale would give Brugge the opportunity to fill the void left by Tzolis quickly, provided the financial terms prove acceptable.
