Fans swarm Gyros venue as Dortmund's newest signing greets supporters

Fans turned out in their droves on Monday at the Olympia‑Grill in Kamen‑Methler to meet new Borussia Dortmund signing Konstantinos Karetsas after the club teased the appearance on social media, despite sweltering 34 °C temperatures. The enthusiastic crowd of Black‑and‑Yellow faithful gathered to greet the 18‑year‑old midfielder.

Karetsas is an 18‑year‑old midfielder who has joined the Ruhr club from Belgian side Gent. He is a Greece international and completed his move to Dortmund just hours before the fan event. The club’s social‑media tease built anticipation among supporters.

He spent around an hour signing autographs, posing for photos and chatting with supporters despite the heat. The club had previously hinted at his arrival online, prompting fans to travel to the Gyros restaurant. The gathering demonstrated the strong connection between the club and its fan base.

Karetsas first met 11‑year‑old Rafael and his family, owners of the popular Gyros restaurant, speaking with them in Greek. Approximately 250 complimentary ‘Taxiteller’ dishes – a signature mix of gyros, currywurst and fries – were handed out to the assembled supporters. The generous food distribution added to the festive atmosphere.

After the fan gathering, Karetsas returned to Dortmund for further introductory meetings. The club’s post, tagged DortmundbundesligaKonstantinos, highlighted the event and his interaction with supporters.

He will soon begin training with Niko Kovač’s squad, following the team’s return from a pre‑season tour of Japan on Sunday. This marks the next step in his integration into the first‑team environment.

The enthusiastic fan turnout demonstrates Dortmund’s focus on community engagement, while his swift move onto training underscores the club’s dual priority of fan connection and on‑field preparation.
