Fans fear collapse as Girondins Bordeaux barred from championships

Fans of Girondins Bordeaux fear a bleak future as the club has been confirmed excluded from national championships, intensifying worries over its survival amid a deepening financial crisis and a historic low point for the six‑time French champion.

The French National Olympic and Sporting Council (CNOSF) gave a formal confirmation on Freitag that Girondins Bordeaux will be barred from the national championships, a decision that the Rat announced as a definitive Bestätigung of the club’s exclusion.

Sparta Capital injects €10.6 million

On 31 July the investment fund Sparta Capital acquired 100 percent of the club’s shares and made 10.6 million euros available to cover running costs and repay debts, giving Bordeaux two weeks to challenge the ruling at the administrative court.

In the coming weeks a genuine horror scenario looms, as the appointed sanation officer Franck Michel could file a request at the commercial court declaring the economic, social and financial situation too precarious, which would trigger liquidation and leave five million euros of pending transfer and training compensation unpaid.

Local investors propose rescue plan

Eine group of local investors and current players announced in early August a rescue plan that would rebuild the Verein debt‑free, on solid foundations and with 100 percent roots in Bordeaux, offering a rare Hoffnungsschimmer for the club.

Since 2022 the club has been in severe financial difficulty; after failed talks with potential backers the summer of 2024 forced a drop to the third league, the surrender of its professional status after 87 years, the dissolution of its youth performance centre and a subsequent placement in the fourth league.

The stadium in Bordeaux can hold over 40 000 spectators, a stark reminder of the club’s former stature even as the current Situation reaches a Tiefpunkt; source credit reads IMAGO/Thierry, Breton/imago)VorlesenAktuelle Zeit:0:00Gesamtdauer:0:001xJetzt.
