Fàbregas vows not to blame players after Como’s unbeaten run ends
The roar of the crowd at Stadio Benito Stirpe faded as the final whistle confirmed a 2-0 defeat for Como. Spanish coach Cesc Fabregas, who had guided his side through a five‑game unbeaten run, walked off visibly disappointed, lamenting the missed chances that cost his team.
That unbeaten run – five matches without a loss in the 2026/27 Serie A campaign – snapped on Sunday (20) when Como failed to convert a clear statistical advantage. The home side held 65% of possession against Frosinone’s 35%, yet the dominance did not translate into goals.
Shot and target statistics
Como registered 27 attempts, eight of which were on target, while the visitors managed 22 shots with six on target. Despite the higher volume, the Canaries could not breach the defence, underscoring a low conversion rate that Fabregas described as “the low utilisation of chances”.
The first goal arrived after 14 minutes when Giacomo Calo found space in the box and curled the ball into the corner. The second came in first‑half stoppage time, a swift counter‑attack finished by Giorgi Kvernadze, sealing the win for Frosinone.
Lorenzo Palmisani, Frosinone’s goalkeeper, earned plaudits for a series of crucial saves that kept his side’s clean sheet intact. The defender’s wall, combined with disciplined defending, prevented any Como reply despite their possession edge.

Fabregas reflects on missed chances
“Non posso ammazzare i miei giocatori per i gol mangiati,” Fabregas told the post‑match press conference, insisting he would not “kill” his players for the goals missed. He added that a 4‑1 victory would not have surprised anyone because “Palmasani made many saves”.
He criticised the team’s lack of control, noting “we had four big chances” and urging improvement. Fabregas also praised the opponent, stating, “We must talk about a great Frosinone because they deserve it – it was a great work of art.”
Tactically, Fabregas explained his decision to deploy Nico Paz in a deeper role, though he later reflected that “the best Nico is more forward”. The Argentine, known for his incisiveness near the opposition goal, was therefore not used in his preferred position.
Champions League? No, Akanji wants all and the Coppa Italia with Inter
After five rounds, Frosinone sit sixth, Juventus seventh and Como eighth, each on 10 points in the Serie A table. Fabregas warned that it is “premature” to draw conclusions about the classification, reminding that the season spans 38 games and that “we need to stay calm and improve”. The defeat also marked Como’s first loss in five months, the previous setback having come in a Coppa Italia semi‑final against Inter.
