Fàbregas' Como gets UEFA green light for Champions League

Cesc Fàbregas's side has received the green light from UEFA: its own Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia in Como may from now on host the club's home matches in the Champions League adventure, after the renovation works were officially completed in time for the authorities.

Stadium renovations and UEFA approval

UEFA has formally approved the stadium, located on the picturesque Lake Como. The works carried out include a new stand, improved infrastructure, enhanced safety provisions and optimized operational facilities, making it meet the strict requirements for European matches.

Previously it was unclear whether Como could play the European home matches on Lake Como. The alternative would have been the stadium of Sassuolo, about two hundred kilometres away. With the green light the Italian club now does not have to deviate.

Historic qualification and impact for players

The historic qualification for the Champions League came after Como eliminated, among others, Juventus and AC Milan. This achievement forced the club to adapt the stadium to UEFA standards.

The news is also good for the Dutch striker Jayden Addai. The 21‑year‑old has scored three goals for Como in twelve competitive matches and now gets the chance to experience Champions League football at home.

Como's rapid rise began in 2019, when the Indonesian Hartono family took over the club and reportedly invested about four hundred million euros in the project. After a period as a player, Cesc Fàbregas became manager, and together with young talents such as Nico Paz and Martin Baturina he has led the club from Serie C to the European top.
