FA misconduct charge looms over Cardiff's Bielik after Portsmouth clash
Cardiff defender Krystian Bielik has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association after an incident with a Portsmouth supporter during the Championship match at Fratton Park on 5 September, around the 71st minute. Police have closed their investigation, leaving the FA process to decide his fate.
The game was briefly halted when Bielik retrieved a ball that had rolled into the stands. Video footage shows the defender confronting a young male supporter who had caught the ball, then appearing to push the fan in the throat after the ball was thrown back towards the pitch.
Cardiff boss Brian Barry‑Murphy said Bielik was slapped in the face during the fracas, while Portsmouth captain John Mousinho later apologised to the visiting side for the disturbance.
The FA alleges Bielik acted in an improper manner at the 71st minute and has given him until Friday to submit a formal response to the charge.
Police conclude investigation
Hampshire Police launched their own inquiry after being notified on Wednesday that the matter had been resolved. Their statement confirmed the incident was settled by an out‑of‑court disposal, with Bielik offering an apology, and confirmed no further action will be taken.
Play resumed shortly after the brief stoppage, allowing the Championship fixture to finish.
