Experienced Senegalese Krépin Diatta boosts struggling Watford

Krépin Diatta has found a new club after his departure from Monaco: he signs for Watford. The English club, which has had a poor start to the season in the Championship, hopes to add extra quality to the squad with the experienced Senegalese.

Career of Diatta in Belgium and France

The former Club Brugge player made 95 competitive appearances for the Belgian club between January 2018 and January 2021. He then moved to Monaco, where he played a total of 143 matches before his contract expired.

Diatta played every minute for Senegal at the World Cup last summer and was named the best young player of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, in which Senegal reached the final. He has nearly 200 matches in the major European competitions to his name, including 26 appearances in the Champions League.

Watford hopes for quality and speed

After eight matchdays, Watford is only twentieth out of 24 teams in the Championship, with eight points from two wins, two draws and four defeats. The club is urgently seeking better results and believes that Diatta's speed and dribbles can strengthen the squad.

Watford praises the new signing: ‘He is known for his speed, dribbles and technical qualities,’ the club says, also highlighting his experience at the highest level.

‘I am very happy to be joining the team. After the talks with the people here the project was immediately clear to me,’ Diatta said. ‘Watford is a big club that only recently played in the Premier League. I think the club belongs there.’

With his experience at Club Brugge, Monaco and the Senegalese national team, Watford hopes that Diatta adds extra quality and speed to the squad and helps the club climb higher in the Championship.
