Smith told GiveMeSport that the agreement was already in place, confirming the fight was “Signed three months ago”. “There are still some things to be done,” he said, adding that only the location and exact date remain unresolved.

Venue talks continue

The original contract stipulates the bout will take place in the United Kingdom, but Smith acknowledged ongoing discussions about moving the event to the United States. He noted that “people have publicly seen over the last few weeks… a lot of talk about the US and suggestions of Madison Square Garden”. Smith said he would love to see the fight in the UK but left the final decision open.

Tyson Fury fueled speculation on Tuesday when he posted on social media that “the one you’ve all been waiting for” would be announced soon, prompting fans to wonder when the details would be confirmed.

Smith also commented on the surprise promotion of the Joshua‑Fury fight that aired during WWE Raw, describing it as “a bit confusing” because the contract details were still being finalised.

Beyond the heavyweight showdown, Smith highlighted Matchroom’s upcoming historic event on 5 September, when Katie Taylor will headline the first boxing card at Croke Park in 54 years, drawing an estimated 80,000 fans.

He added that Matchroom is currently operating in its strongest global position, with recent shows in Australia, London, Orlando, Mexico, Dublin and New Jersey, underscoring the promotion’s worldwide reach.
