Kokain-Geständnis in Marburg
Am Mittwoch, before the Landgericht Marburg, Immel delivered a detailed Kokain‑Geständnis that the court recorded as a Geständnis in the proceedings. His lawyer Burkhard Benecke told the Gericht that “Es ist ihm unangenehm, aber er möchte keinen Hehl daraus machen: Es gab bei Herrn Immel ein Kokainproblem und die Gelder sind ausschließlich da reingeflossen”. Immel musste einen schweren Gang antreten, um die Vorwürfe zu klären, and admitted the addiction began in 2007 after years of personal Schwierigkeiten.
Immel had previously faced Kokain accusations in 2012, but the court delivered a Freispruch. Benecke added that the first judgment and the threatened Haft acted as a heilsamer Schock, prompting Immel to show Einsicht and Reue – a sign of personal Erfolg in confronting his past.
Probation and community service
In August 2025, Immel was convicted of fraud in 107 cases and sentenced to two years and two months Haft for allegedly borrowing and not repaying money, amounting to over 34 000 Euro. However, the recent Geständnis led the court to soften the penalty: instead of further Haft, he received four years’ Bewährung, must complete 200 Stunden gemeinnützige Arbeit, attend a Drogen‑Therapie and submit to regular tests.
During the hearing Immel expressed remorse, stating “Ich will mein Leben ändern, egal, wie das hier ausgeht”. Er zeigte Reue, and Richter Dominik Balzer warned, “Wenn Sie sowas in der Zukunft bringen, wissen Sie jetzt auch selbst, dass Sie in allerkürzester Zeit in der JVA landen.”
Since his retirement in 1997, the former Torwart has battled health problems, notably a Hüftleiden that forced his exit from professional sport. He filed for Privatinsolvenz in 2008 and, as of 2025, receives Bürgergeld, reflecting the ongoing Schwierigkeiten that have marked his post‑career years.
