Everton Target Prolific striker in January Move Should They Go After Him

Everton have emerged as the leading Premier League club targeting Rennes’ 26‑year‑old striker Esteban Lepaul for a January move, hoping his 20‑goal debut season and three goals in his first five league games will bolster their attack this season significantly.

Scouting interest intensifies

According to TEAMtalk journalist Graeme Bailey, Everton, Leeds United and Aston Villa monitored Lepaul throughout the summer. Brentford and Brighton have also entered the wider scouting picture, although Everton currently hold the strongest interest. The French forward’s profile has risen sharply across the Premier League.

Lepaul’s rise began after leaving Lyon’s youth system in 2020. He rebuilt his career away from the spotlight, netting ten goals for Angers before Rennes secured his services in 2025. In his debut campaign in Brittany he delivered twenty goals, catching the eye of several English clubs.

His early‑season form has maintained that momentum, with three goals in his first five league appearances. The performances earned him a France call‑up from new national team boss Zinedine Zidane. Lepaul’s penalty‑box instincts and movement suit Everton’s direct attacking approach.

Negotiation and financial hurdles

Rennes have responded to growing interest by handing Lepaul a long‑term contract, meaning Everton could face a difficult negotiation if they decide to formalise their interest in January. The club’s Target is clear, but they must present an attractive offer and a convincing sporting proposal. After him being linked with other Premier League sides, Everton must act quickly.

The financial question matters just as much. Everton would need to avoid paying an inflated fee simply because rivals have taken notice, perhaps structuring the deal with performance‑related bonuses. The Friedkin Group’s reported openness to selling a controlling stake in Everton adds another consideration, potentially complicating January planning.

If Everton can secure Lepaul, his proven finishing could provide David Moyes with a reliable goal source. However, Premier League defenders will present a tougher test than Ligue 1 opposition, and the club must ensure the striker’s success translates to England.
