Everton target low‑cost stability with Norgaard move
David Ornstein Everton agree on a £7 million deal as Everton have reached an agreement in principle to sign 32‑year‑old Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard from Arsenal, pending a medical next week. The move, reported by The Athletic, aims to bolster a midfield that struggled for control last season.
Everton are accelerating a midfield rebuild after a season lacking control, and have identified a need for experienced, low‑cost central stability. The club see Norgaard’s Premier League experience and leadership as the ideal solution.
The signing fits a strategy shift toward adding control, know‑how and depth in central midfield. The club highlighted that they "are moving with purpose and this one makes obvious sense," wrote David Ornstein.
Norgaard made 196 appearances for Brentford over six seasons and captained the side between 2023 and 2025, helping them win promotion to the top flight. At Arsenal he was not a regular starter, recording only six Premier League starts in the 2025‑26 campaign before the turn of the year.
The transfer is described as a low‑cost move with very little drama attached. If the paperwork is completed, the 32‑year‑old will undergo a medical next week ahead of finalising his move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
If finalised, Norgaard becomes Everton’s fourth summer signing, joining Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough and the permanent deals of Tyrique George and Merlin Rohl, signalling a blend of youthful upside and seasoned guidance. The addition adds experienced central stability to complement the younger arrivals.
The final obstacle remains the completion of paperwork and the medical examination; once cleared, Everton will have added a reliable organiser to a midfield that has long needed calm and experience. The sale also provides Arsenal with a modest £7 million fee for a player who featured sparingly.
