Everton secure Hannah Blundell on free transfer, shoring up defence

Everton have completed the permanent signing of 32‑year‑old full‑back Hannah Blundell from Manchester United on a free transfer, returning her to Goodison Park after a loan spell that began in January. During her short‑term stint she featured in ten matches, contributing to the Toffees' eighth‑place finish in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The Toffees pursued Blundell because of her defensive reliability and familiarity with the squad, qualities that helped secure their respectable league position. Her ten appearances during the loan spell demonstrated the consistency the club values in its back line.

After agreeing to the permanent deal, Blundell said, “I am really happy. It is a proud moment for me and my family, and is something I wanted to do.” She added that the appointment of manager Scott Phelan was a decisive factor in her decision to stay.

Blundell praised the team atmosphere, recalling the happiness displayed at the World Sevens tournament in May and describing the players as “fantastic.” She also highlighted Everton’s special history and expressed pride in wearing the Everton badge properly.

The defender becomes Everton’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
