Everton's £40m pursuit of Balogun stalls as medical issue emerges
Everton’s £40 million bid for Monaco’s 25‑year‑old USA striker Folarin Balogun COLLAPSES in September after the player changed his mind during the medical, prompting the club to file a deal sheet to buy time while renegotiating the £40 million terms with Monaco.
During the medical examination an issue was raised that caused the negotiations with Monaco to stall. Everton responded by filing a deal sheet to buy extra time while they renegotiated the £40 million terms.
Loan chase stalls as window closes
The club turned to Manchester United for a possible loan of Joshua Zirkzee and also opened talks with Aston Villa about a loan for Tammy Abraham.
Both clubs declined, saying the transfer window was too close to the deadline for any new agreement.
Everton later reached a revised agreement with Monaco on the structure of the deal, but Balogun announced he no longer wished to join.
In the meantime Everton secured Ainsley Maitland‑Niles from Lyon for a fee of £3 million.
The club also completed a loan for Jack Grealish from Manchester City, adding further depth to the squad.
