Everton’s €25 million gamble on Danish striker Franculino Djú

Everton’s €25 million gamble on Danish striker Franculino Djú

Everton have agreed to meet FC Midtjylland’s €25 million record fee for the 21‑year‑old Danish striker Franculino Djú, a move that would see the forward leave the Danish Superliga for the Premier League. The club’s officials at Goodison Park have stepped up their pursuit, signalling a major investment in a player who has yet to prove himself in England.

Everton’s interest stems from a clear need for a proven Premier League striker, a gap highlighted by recent midfield and right‑back shortages. The English side hopes Djú’s goal‑scoring pedigree can fill that void and add firepower to a squad that has struggled to find a reliable finisher.

During the 2025/26 Superligaen season Djú finished as the league’s top scorer, netting 17 goals in 21 games and providing three assists in 1,341 minutes. His 1.14 goals per 90 minutes placed him ahead of every other player in the Danish top flight, and he converted nearly 60 % of his attempts – an elite rate for a 21‑year‑old.

Beyond domestic success, Djú gained continental experience by featuring in the Europa League, giving him exposure to higher‑level competition. TEAMtalk notes that a raft of English clubs are now keeping tabs on him, and Goodison officials are right in the thick of the race.

Midtjylland have made it clear that any offer must eclipse the Danish league’s record transfer fee of €25 million. The club turned down a €25 million bid from the Saudi Pro League earlier this summer, showing they will not entertain lower offers and underscoring the price tag Everton must meet.

Transfermarkt values Djú at roughly €13 million, a figure Midtjylland disregard as they insist on a minimum €25 million fee. The disparity between market valuation and the club’s demand highlights the gamble Everton are prepared to take.

The jump from the Danish Superliga to the Premier League is notoriously difficult, with many players struggling with the physical intensity and reduced time on the ball. Everton’s allocation of a large portion of their summer budget to this €25 million gamble could leave other areas of the squad thin, a risk the club may find hard to justify.

If the deal goes through, Everton will secure a Pro‑level striker with a proven goal record, while Midtjylland will break their own transfer record and reap a substantial financial windfall. Both sides stand to benefit, but the success of the investment will ultimately be judged on Djú’s adaptation to English football.
