Everton chase free‑agent Martial as Man United star seeks Premier League return

Everton have been offered the chance to sign former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial on a free‑transfer, with his representatives approaching the club about a move to Goodison Park. The 30‑year‑old Frenchman is currently a free agent, meaning the Toffees can register him even though the summer transfer window has closed.

Martial became unattached earlier this year after his spell with Mexican club Monterrey ended. His time in Mexico produced just one goal in twenty appearances, and the Frenchman is reported to be keen on returning to English football.

Everton's summer transfer setbacks

Everton entered the window desperate for a striker, but their plans fell apart. The club sanctioned Beto’s move to Fiorentina and then saw negotiations for Monaco striker Folarin Balogun collapse at the final stage.

A late loan enquiry for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee was rejected, leaving summer signing Thierno Barry as the only recognised senior centre‑forward on the books. The Toffees have therefore turned to the free‑agent market for an emergency solution.

What a Martial signing could mean

Martial boasts considerable Premier League experience, having scored sixty‑three goals in two hundred and nine appearances for Manchester United. Everton could view that pedigree as valuable given their current lack of attacking options.

While the Frenchman has struggled for consistency and fitness in recent seasons, his proven goal‑scoring record at the highest level may provide the Toffees with a much‑needed boost up front.

For Martial, a move to Goodison Park would offer a return to the Premier League and an opportunity to revive his career after a disappointing spell abroad.

Talks remain at an exploratory stage, with no agreement in place yet, but both parties appear eager to see the deal through before the season progresses further.
