Everton Agree to pay 90 percent of Man City Jack Grealish’s wages

Everton Agree to pay 90 percent of Man City Jack Grealish’s wages

Everton have agreed a season‑long loan deal to sign Man City star Jack Grealish, with the Toffees covering 90 percent of his wages and paying no loan fee. The 30‑year‑old winger will travel to Manchester for a medical on Tuesday, and the paperwork must be completed before the 11 pm deadline on deadline day.

Why Everton chased Grealish

Everton pursued Grealish all summer after his impressive loan spell on Merseyside last season, which was cut short by a foot injury in January. The club’s hierarchy made his return a priority despite interest from Sunderland and Aston Villa. Manager David Moyes has long wanted to bolster his attack, and Grealish’s familiarity with the stadium appealed to the Toffees.

Both clubs Agree on the wage split and the absence of a loan fee. The loan comes after Everton and City finalised a separate swap that sends Iliman Ndiaye to the Blues for £65 million, a deal that also saw City intercept Tottenham’s move for the Senegal international. In the same window Everton have committed over £40 million to bring USMNT striker Folarin Balogun from Monaco, while Beto is set to join Fiorentina in a £17 million transfer. These transactions illustrate the Toffees’ willingness to invest heavily in attacking options.

What the loan means for both clubs

For Everton, Grealish provides an immediate quality boost and a chance for Moyes to achieve his offensive objectives before the season ends. Grealish enters the final year of his contract at the Etihad, meaning a successful spell could persuade City to sell him permanently, while the loan allows the England international to showcase his value ahead of a free‑transfer move next summer.

The window also saw Everton add Hayden Hackney, Brennan Johnson and Christian Norgaard, and secure permanent deals for Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George. Departures include Iliman Ndiaye, Dwight McNeil, Idrissa Gueye, Seamus Coleman and Beto, with Tim Iroegbunam heading to Hull City for £22 million. The club is also reported to be close to signing right‑back Kenny Tete, addressing a defensive need highlighted by the manager.
