European giants target Liverpool legend as Reds' squad thins

At Anfield the Reds have watched three first‑team regulars depart, leaving Liverpool with a thin squad as the 2026‑27 season approaches, while European giants Galatasaray have moved to hijack Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah, with his agent Rami Abbas reportedly in contact.

Liverpool have cleared out a large portion of their squad this summer, prompting a re‑jig before the new campaign fully begins. The club had expected only minor adjustments, not a wholesale exodus.

Three first‑team regulars – Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konaté and Andy Robertson – have already packed their bags and left as free agents. None of the departures generated a transfer fee for Liverpool, with Salah even terminating his contract to get away from L4.

The exits have left the Reds severely lacking depth, putting them just one injury crisis away from a worse situation than last term. The loss of key defenders and a forward has exposed the squad’s vulnerability.

European side Galatasaray are now attempting to hijack the deal Besiktas were close to finalising for Salah. After the Egyptian King’s agent u‑turned on the Besiktas agreement and demanded more money, the Turkish club sees an opening.

A report from Turkish outlet Fanatik quoted: "A significant development has occurred regarding Mohamed Salah, whose contract with Liverpool has expired and who will be leaving the club. While recently linked with Beşiktaş, it has been learned that Galatasaray is also interested in signing him." The article added that Galatasaray has already received information from the player’s agent, Rami Abbas.

Salah contributed 22 goals across all competitions last term, despite not being in his best form. The 33‑year‑old is in the twilight of his career and this could be his last chance at a huge payday, whether in the Saudi Pro League or MLS.

If he chooses Galatasaray, he could form a dynamic partnership with Victor Osimhen and be hailed as a god in Turkey, though his salary would likely be lower than what a Saudi or MLS contract might offer. The decision ultimately rests with the Egyptian King and what he values most in his next move.

The contrast between Liverpool’s depleted roster and Galatasaray’s aggressive pursuit underscores a pivotal moment for both clubs: Liverpool must rebuild quickly, while Salah’s next destination could reshape his legacy.
