Europe round-up: De Bruyne misses chances while Napoli keeps searching

On a sunny Sunday in Florence, Kevin De Bruyne, the Belgian Red Devil, started for the third consecutive match for Napoli. Despite his presence he could not influence the game; Napoli and Fiorentina finished in a 1‑1 draw, leaving the Partenopei without points.

Napoli miss points against Fiorentina

On the fifth matchday of Serie A, the Partenopei took the field at Fiorentina. Billy Gilmour opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, but Alejandro Jimenez equalised for the home side in the 51st minute. Napoli could not find a second goal thereafter.

For De Bruyne this was his third consecutive start in all competitions and his second start in Serie A. The Belgian playmaker did not seem free in his movements and found too little space in the tight game, causing him to miss his usual impact.

Because of the draw Napoli remain temporarily ninth in Serie A. Depending on the results of the other clubs on the same matchday the club could still drop a few places.

Feyenoord dominates Utrecht

In the Eredivisie Feyenoord at home delivered a convincing 5‑0 victory over Utrecht. Moussa Hadj scored twice, while Nacho, Diarra and Valente (from the spot) each netted one goal. The win strengthens Feyenoord’s position in the league.

AZ leads, PSV loses

AZ Alkmaar secured a 1‑0 win over Telstar at home, leaving the club now as sole leader. Meanwhile PSV, despite a halftime lead, lost 3‑2 to FC Twente in Enschede, costing them valuable points.

Getafe rises, Malaga stays at the bottom

In Spain Getafe played its first match of the season and beat Malaga at home 1‑0. A goal from Azon after five minutes gave the side the lead, propelling Getafe up the table while Malaga remains at the bottom.

English Sunday full of goals

In England the Premier League also provided spectacle. Manchester City, still without Jeremie Doku, won 5‑3 against Sunderland; Semenyo scored twice for the home side and Brobbey twice for the visitors. Liverpool secured a crucial 1‑0 win over Bournemouth thanks to a goal from Isak, while Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid finished in a 0‑0 draw.
