Euro 2032: De Laurentiis and Lotito disappointed by project rejections
The FIGC has sent within the deadlines set by UEFA the dossiers of the venues deemed suitable for the bid to host the Euro 2032 matches, but the projects of Aurelio De Laurentiis and Claudio Lotito were rejected, leaving them disappointed.
Cities and stadiums in contention
President Giovanni Malagò transmitted to the president of UEFA, Alexander Ceferin, the formal communication containing the FIGC offices’ assessment of thirteen cities and fourteen stadiums. The capital is competing with the Olimpico and the project of the new Pietralata stadium, while Naples proposes the Maradona.
According to today’s edition of Tuttosport, the surprises are not lacking: the San Nicola of Bari and Bologna are included, and at the last moment also Genoa and Verona. The “Latest news SSC Napoli” confirm the presence of the Maradona among the candidates.
The truly disappointed are Aurelio De Laurentiis and Claudio Lotito: their projects for a new stadium in Naples and for the redevelopment of the Flaminio in Rome were rejected, as expected.
Next steps of UEFA
It is likely that the final list will include Milan, Turin and Rome with the Olimpico, while the other two spots will be allocated among Naples, Florence, Palermo and the other venue in Rome.
UEFA will carry out compliance checks on eleven thematic areas, including infrastructural compatibility and one hundred twenty operational requirements. Only after these checks the FIGC will indicate the five host venues.
“We are satisfied with the number and quality of the dossiers that have arrived at the FIGC”, said President Malagò, thanking UEFA and all public and private entities for the collaboration.
The work carried out so far confirms the shared will to offer Euro 2032 cities and facilities worthy of a major international event.
