Erling Haaland's media duties withdrawn after Man City guilty verdict

Erling Haaland will not address the media after Norway’s football federation pulled his press‑conference duties following Manchester City’s guilty verdict on Friday. The club was found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges brought by the Premier League in 2023, and Haaland had been due to speak ahead of Norway’s Sunday Nations League clash with Portugal.

Possible sanctions for City

The verdict, reported by Mark Wakefield of Sport Central at 22:56 on 25 Sep 2026, stated that Manchester City were guilty on all but one of the 115 allegations. The club retains the right to appeal, and the decision has been widely covered across the media. The article included a View and two Images.

City now await the Premier League’s ruling on punishment. Sanctions could range from a points deduction to outright expulsion from the competition. The uncertainty adds pressure on the club as the season progresses.

Norway’s press‑conference reshuffle

Haaland featured for Norway on Thursday night, helping the side to a 3‑2 victory over Denmark. He found the net twice in that win, reinforcing his importance to the national team. The striker remains with the squad during the extended international break.

Norway’s media manager Morten Skjonsberg announced that Haaland would be replaced for the pre‑match press conference. TV2 reported that Benfica forwards Andreas Schjelderup and Fredrik Aursnes will take the podium. The message to journalists read: “We are making changes to tomorrow’s press conference… (Stale) Solbakken, (Fredrik) Aursnes and (Andreas) Schjelderup will be on the ground floor.”

Haaland previously addressed the City charges in a July interview with TIME Magazine. He said, “I spoke with the bosses, and in the end, I believe them. It’s such a tricky situation for me to even sit there and speak about, because I wasn’t really involved in it. So I think the club knows what they’re doing. They will sort it out.”
