EPL Glasner faults VAR disallow vs Tottenham clash

Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner erupted after VAR controversially disallowed Neco Williams’ potential winning goal in a 0-0 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground. The decision came in a tightly contested match that left both sides level on points.

In the 67th minute Morgan Gibbs-White lifted a shot toward the goal, prompting a frantic goal‑line scramble. Neco Williams forced the ball over the line, believing Forest had taken the lead.

Referee Craig Pawson initially signalled a goal on the pitch, but VAR Peter Bankes intervened and ruled that Williams had handled the ball with his arm before it crossed. The on‑field decision was therefore overturned, nullifying the goal.

Glasner slams VAR decision

Speaking to the BBC, Glasner accused the VAR official of guessing contact from a moving shirt, insisting there was no clear and obvious evidence to overturn the on‑field call. “It’s not clear and obvious,” he said, adding that the VAR threshold should remain high.

Glasner argued that a handball should not be reviewed unless four different angles confirm it, and he warned that VAR should “stay with the on‑field decision” to strengthen the referee’s authority. He also lamented missed chances, noting a big opportunity before half‑time from Morgan Gibbs‑White.

The match ended 0-0, leaving Nottingham Forest with a point from the City Ground encounter. Both teams fought hard, and Glasner maintained that the disallowed goal cost Forest a potential win in a game decided by fine margins.
