England player Krystian Bielik suffocates fan on the stands during Portsmouth win

England‑player Krystian Bielik, a 28‑year‑old Cardiff‑professional, has been playing for Cardiff City since 2026. In the Championship match between FC Portsmouth and Cardiff City, where the hosts were leading 2‑0, a scuffle broke out between the player and a fan in the stands. The incident eclipsed the game and could be further investigated by the FA.

The player’s fuse then blew. The incident took place off the pitch, where tensions between the two teams were already high.

An off‑the‑field incident has shadowed the Championship match between FC Portsmouth and Cardiff City. The focus was on Cardiff‑professional Krystian Bielik, who grabbed a young fan by the throat with his right hand in the front row.

TV footage shows the 28‑year‑old Bielik placing his hand on the fan in the row. Earlier, the fan had not immediately released a caught ball, but threw it in another direction. The spectator then resisted and allegedly struck Bielik in the face; the footage is partially obscured.

Further escalation in the stadium

Afterwards, according to the BBC, another spectator hit Cardiff’s Perry Ng on the head with a ball. Additional fans as well as players from both teams then became involved in the confrontation.

Referee Benjamin Speedie halted the match in the 72nd minute for several minutes. Security personnel escorted the involved spectators out of the stand, while the game was briefly paused.

Bielik initially faced no consequences. The former youth player of FC Arsenal could, however, be held accountable later, should the English governing body FA launch investigations based on the TV footage. Portsmouth manager John Mousinho commented on the events and apologized to Cardiff, while Cardiff manager Brian Barry‑Murphy emphasized that the players must be protected and that the football association will take the appropriate measures.
