Endrick’s Lyon loan fuels Real Madrid’s plans after World Cup impact

🇪🇸

Brazilian striker Endrick completed a six‑month loan from Real Madrid to Olympique Lyonnais, returning to the Spanish giants after a productive spell in Ligue 1 that coincided with his decisive cameo in Brazil’s 2‑1 World Cup Round of 32 win over Japan.

Lyon signed Endrick to give him first‑team minutes and rebuild his confidence after limited opportunities at Real Madrid. The club also valued the energy and creativity he added when he replaced the injured Lucas Paqueta.

During his loan, the forward featured regularly, contributing the dynamism that helped him regain form. He later praised Lyon for opening its doors and allowing him to showcase his abilities on the pitch.

In the World Cup match, Endrick entered at half‑time, replacing Lucas Paqueta, and his presence helped Brazil overturn a deficit, with Casemiro equalising and Gabriel Martinelli scoring the winner. He also thanked national team manager Carlo Ancelotti for the halftime substitution that altered the match. Endrick’s impact was highlighted by the Brazilian side’s dramatic comeback.

Reflecting on his time in France, Endrick expressed his gratitude. “I wasn’t playing at Real Madrid and, thank God, I was able to leave. I’m very grateful to Lyon for helping me, for opening their doors to me. For allowing me to show what I can do on the pitch and to make it to the World Cup,” he said.

He also described the personal impact of the loan. “I’m very happy, very pleased. I’m very grateful to God because it’s been an incredible six months in my life. Six months in which my story has changed a little,” he concluded.

Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid plan now counts on Endrick for the upcoming campaign, with the club believing another loan would bring diminishing returns after his Ligue 1 success. The feeling within the club is that another temporary move would no longer provide significant benefits.

Endrick will rejoin Real Madrid for pre‑season, where he will adapt to Mourinho’s demands, while Lyon will have benefited from his short‑term boost without a long‑term commitment.
