Endless days end for Yael Trepy, the Français Cagliari striker
Yael Trepy, the 20‑year‑old Français forward of Serie A side Cagliari, has moved from a harrowing 48‑hour artificial coma after a near‑drowning to a cautious awakening, as doctors report he is now alert, cooperative and showing no neurological deficits and stable respiratory parameters.
The near‑drowning ordeal
On Sunday the 20‑year‑old was admitted to intensive care after nearly drowning in a villa pool in northern Sardinia, inhaling a large amount of water into his lungs. He was immediately placed in an artificial coma to protect his brain function.
He remained in that state for 48 hours before regaining consciousness on Tuesday. The hospital of Sassari, where he is being treated, confirmed his condition and continued close monitoring.
Signs of recovery and club response
Cagliari, competing in Serie A, released a medical bulletin stating that he is alert, cooperative and presently shows no manifest neurological deficit, with stable respiratory and hemodynamic parameters. The club added that he continues to be under close clinical and respiratory surveillance.
President Tommaso Giulini posted on X, writing “A"Des jours qui semblent interminables. Then a new piece of news arrives and changes everything. The news we were waiting for has arrived.” Le club also shared a brief message: “You are strong Yael, we look forward to seeing you soon.”
Despite the encouraging updates, the Français remains hospitalized in intensive care for the time being. Medical staff will continue to monitor his progress before any decision on his return to training.
The contrast between days that felt endless and the recent breakthrough underscores both the fragility of the situation and the hope that Yael Trepy may soon rejoin his teammates at Cagliari.
