Emery’s chase for Garnacho could reshape Villa’s attack at Villa Park

Emery’s chase for Garnacho could reshape Villa’s attack at Villa Park

Aston Villa are in advanced talks with Chelsea to secure winger Alejandro Garnacho on a season‑long loan with a conditional purchase clause, a move driven by manager Unai Emery as he looks to rebuild the attack at Villa Park after the departure of Morgan Rogers.

Emery has identified Garnacho as one of his priority attacking targets, a sentiment that dates back to last summer when he pursued the Argentina international before leaving Manchester United for Chelsea. That long‑standing admiration is believed to have helped convince Garnacho that Villa Park could be the right destination.

Discussions centre on an initial season‑long loan that includes a conditional obligation to buy. While the exact structure remains to be finalised and no contract has been signed, talks between the two clubs are progressing.

Roma have also explored a move for the 22‑year‑old, but Villa are currently regarded as the front‑runners to secure his services. The club’s focus remains on adding quality in the wide areas following the recent signing of Johan Manzambi.

In addition to Garnacho, Villa are weighing other wide‑area options such as Paris Saint‑Germain youngster Ibrahim Mbaye and West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville. These alternatives underline the urgency to reinforce the flanks after Morgan Rogers’ exit.

Chelsea are prepared to let Garnacho leave after an inconsistent first season that followed his £40 million move from Manchester United last summer. He managed eight goals in all competitions but started only 14 Premier League matches, with competition for attacking places limiting his opportunities.

New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has granted Garnacho additional time away from pre‑season training to resolve his future before the campaign begins. This flexibility reflects Chelsea’s willingness to facilitate the potential loan.

The proposed transfer is separate from Chelsea’s club‑record £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Villa, with the two deals not financially linked. Villa have already acted swiftly after Rogers’ departure, completing the signing of Johan Manzambi from Freiburg and now focusing on finalising the conditional purchase clause, while Chelsea’s willingness to let the player go remains a key factor.
