Emelie Mece's loan spark in Serie A debut as Swiss stars shine in the Pokal
At the weekend the Swiss women's game lit up the Pokal and Serie A, with Emelie Mece Hier scoring on her Napoli debut against her former club Juventus in Turin.
Mece’s rapid rise from Lyon to Napoli
The 21‑year‑old Swiss U19 international left OL Lyonnes for Juventus Turin in the summer, then secured a loan move to Napoli. In her Serie A debut she found the net after just 16 minutes, a rebound that gave Napoli an early lead before the match finished 1‑3.
Photographer Jonathan Moscrop captured the moment, noting the irony of Mece scoring against the club that owns her contract.
Meanwhile, SC Freiburg’s Julia Stierli added a goal in a 2‑1 cup win over Andernach, heading in from a corner at the far post.
In the same round, Mainz’s Sabina Jackson struck from close range after a set‑piece, while other Swiss players Emanuela Pfister, Lara Meroni and Lia Kammer each netted in their respective DFB‑Pokal fixtures.
Mid‑August saw Mia Schmid transfer from Turbine Potsdam to Feyenoord Rotterdam. The defender scored in her Eredivisie debut and later contributed to a 2‑2 cup draw against Zwolle.
These performances underline the growing impact of Swiss women across Europe’s top leagues and cup competitions.
