Elite striker arrives to rescue Liverpool as Iraola's options dwindle

An Elite French striker is set to join Liverpool, offering a potential lifeline for the Reds as they struggle to find a cohesive attacking rhythm. The forward’s arrival is billed as the missing piece that could transform a side whose front line has failed to break teams down consistently.

Liverpool have spent an incredible sum on their attack, yet the squad rarely dissects opponents with regularity. Individual quality exists, but the Reds rely on sporadic moments rather than a fluid, collective forward line.

Andoni Iraola inherits a narrow set of options: four left‑wingers, no recognised right‑winger and only one experienced striker. That lone natural centre‑forward leaves little room for tactical flexibility, a situation no rational new head coach would welcome.

Why an Elite striker matters

The squad’s lack of a natural centre‑forward means any plan hinges on an Elite striker to lead the line. Without such a focal point, the Reds cannot sustain pressure over a full season, especially when relying on a single forward for goals.

Hugo Ekitiké was identified by the club’s Value Adder model as the most valuable forward last season, yet he has not featured this campaign and is not expected back before 2027. Iraola must therefore navigate the next few months without his services.

Frenchman's arrival and squad depth

The incoming Frenchman provides an immediate upgrade and a reliable cover for Alexander Isak, whose fitness cannot be guaranteed for an entire campaign. His presence gives Iraola the freedom to rotate the forward line, keeping players at peak performance throughout matches.

When all forwards are fit, Liverpool boast a seriously impressive attacking group capable of rotating without loss of quality. Such depth could allow the Reds to maintain intensity in the FA Cup, the league chase and potentially the latter stages of the Champions League.
