Eleven years on, Elvedi embraces new Premier League challenge at Leeds

Swiss centre‑back Nico Elvedi ends an 11‑year spell at Borussia Mönchengladbach to join Premier League side Leeds United, signing a contract that runs until 2029. The 29‑year‑old’s move marks a "Neue Herausforderung" in England after a long Bundesliga career.

The club announced a Dreijahresvertrag, confirming the 29‑year‑old will stay with the "Whites" through 2029. The signing was reported by Imago Images/HMB Media/Yannis Dreimann, highlighting the new Vertrag with Leeds United.

Record‑breaking Bundesliga career

Elvedi leaves the Bundesligisten after 11 Jahre, having featured in 318 Bundesliga matches – the most ever by a Swiss player in the German top flight. He also holds the record as the foreign player with the highest number of appearances for Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The Zürich‑born Innenverteidiger began as an FCZ‑Junior and has left deep Spuren in Deutschland, becoming a staple of the club’s defence during his lengthy tenure.

His performances at the WM im Sommer helped raise his profile, contributing to the Wechsel to the Premier League. The Swiss international’s summer form was cited as a key factor in Leeds United’s interest.

At Leeds United, Elvedi will be coached by the German Daniel Farke, the Premier‑League‑Klub’s manager who guided the team back to the top flight and secured two consecutive survival campaigns. The three‑time champion club finished 14th last season.
