Eintracht Frankfurt receive millions via Premier League loan
Eintracht Frankfurt receives, thanks to an activated clause in Hugo Larsson’s loan agreement, €25 million. The Swedish midfielder remains at FC Fulham because his first appearance in the Premier League triggered the purchase obligation, so the SGE immediately receives the amount and benefits financially.
Clause in the loan agreement activated
Hugo Larsson’s move to FC Fulham was initially agreed as a loan with a purchase obligation. The obligation was only to take effect if certain conditions were met. Through Larsson’s first appearance for Fulham in the Premier League, the purchase obligation is now activated.
Even before the appearance, Sky had reported a possible sum of up to €25 million. The activated clause ensures that Eintracht Frankfurt receives the full amount in euros. This makes the claim immediately due.
Eintracht retains 15 percent on a future sale
Upon his arrival, Hugo Larsson said: “Of course this is a very proud moment for me and my family – I feel honoured to be here. Coming here, to the oldest club in London, which can look back on such a long and historic history, is a great honour for me.”
The 22‑year‑old Swede arrived in early September after three years in England with Eintracht Frankfurt. In 2023 he moved from Malmö FF to Frankfurt and made 119 league appearances for the SGE, scoring ten goals and providing seven more.
The contract also stipulates that Hessen holds a 15 percent stake in any possible future sale. Should Fulham sell Larsson profitably in the future, Eintracht Frankfurt will benefit again from this share.
Following the activated purchase obligation, Larsson is expected to remain at Fulham until the summer of 2025, while Eintracht benefits from the cash influx and strengthens its finances. Eintracht plans to use the cash influx deliberately for summer signings, to increase squad depth and pursue its sporting objectives.
