Eintracht Frankfurt eye €4m Turkish loan for left‑back Niels Nkounkou

Eintracht Frankfurt are close to securing a Turkish loan move for French left‑back Niels Nkounkou, with the club reportedly seeking a €4 million transfer fee despite having paid €7.5 million for the player originally. The 25‑year‑old returned from a season‑long loan at Torino and is being discussed alongside a potential move to Konyaspor Kulübü.

The loan negotiations have emerged after Nathaniel Brown’s departure to Bayern Munich left a vacancy at left‑back. Frankfurt, who earned €50 million from Brown’s transfer, are keen to rebuild a defence that struggled last season and see Nkounkou as a cost‑effective option.

According to German journalist Christopher Michel, Frankfurt are prepared to accept a €4 million fee but remain open to a pure loan arrangement. Michel also notes that Nkounkou has been given a say in the decision, effectively granting him veto power over any move.

Nkounkou, a French youth international and Olympic representative, spent the previous campaign on loan at Torino. His experience abroad adds a level of seniority that Frankfurt hope will help stabilise the back line.

He featured in the club’s first pre‑season friendly of the summer, starting the opening 45 minutes of a 1‑7 away win at Gießen before being replaced at half‑time by Elias Baum, another candidate to succeed Brown. Nkounkou did not register a goal in the match.

While Frankfurt possess ample funds to recruit externally, the potential €4 million fee for Nkounkou offers a financial return on their original €7.5 million outlay. However, the player may choose to wait for a different destination during the remaining 43 days of the summer 2026 transfer window, leaving the final outcome uncertain.
