Edu's Nottingham Forest Transfer chief departs after months barred

Nottingham Forest Transfer chief Edu Gaspar has officially left the club after being told to stay away for six months. The 48‑year‑old Brazilian was appointed in July 2025 and his contract has now been terminated. The decision follows a prolonged absence from the City Ground and a request from the owners.

Edu has not been seen at a Forest match since February, and reports in March indicated the Premier League club instructed him not to visit the training ground or the stadium. His exclusion extended to the club’s facilities, effectively sidelining him from daily operations.

The termination was widely anticipated after the six‑month ban was imposed. Forest confirmed the contract’s end, ending his tenure just over a year after his arrival.

Forest's ambition and Edu's remit

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis hired Edu to oversee all football‑related functions, including recruitment, performance, squad strategy and player development. The role also covered the owner’s other clubs, Olympiacos in Greece and Rio Ave in Portugal, reflecting a multi‑club model.

A falling‑out with former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed in September, was cited as a key factor in Edu’s difficulties. Nuno’s departure marked the first of four managerial changes last season, with Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira also having short spells.

Aftermath and immediate impact

Forest’s chief football officer George Syrianos has assumed Edu’s duties, and the club does not plan to appoint a new transfer chief in the near term. The restructuring aims to stabilise the football department ahead of the new campaign.

Oliver Glasner now manages Nottingham Forest, who have begun the Premier League season with two draws and a defeat in their opening three matches. The club hopes the organisational changes will improve results as they aim to build on their seventh‑place finish in 2025. MI
