Edu Gaspar leaves Nottingham Forest and ends Evangelos Marinakis' dominance
Edu Gaspar left the position of global football director at Nottingham Forest, a club owned by the group of Evangelos Marinakis, ending a stint of just over a year. His departure was confirmed after the termination of his contract, and the 48‑year‑old Brazilian will be replaced by George Syrianos, who has already taken on more senior roles at the club.
Edu Gaspar's contract was terminated, just over a year after he joined the club in July 2025, coming from Arsenal where he worked for five seasons. At 48, the Brazilian executive leaves the role of global football director of Nottingham Forest, which is part of the group of Evangelos Marinakis, alongside Olympiakos and Rio Ave.
Instability and managerial changes
The last season was marked by sporting instability, with the team fighting to stay up and recording four managerial changes. A falling‑out between Nuno Espírito Santo and Edu Gaspar led to the manager's departure early in the campaign.
Later, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vítor Pereira took charge of the English side, but were unable to stabilise performance. At that time, Oliver Glasner took over, but his appointment did not involve Edu Gaspar.
With Gaspar's exit, the club has not yet announced an official replacement for the global director role. George Syrianos has taken on a more important role within Nottingham Forest, following the Brazilian's departure and Ross Wilson's move to Newcastle.
