Dundas Jong FC Utrecht red card sparks learning debate after incident
Bij Jong FC Utrecht midfielder Noa Dundas was shown a direct red card after he struck a Vitesse opponent in the face shortly after Naoufal Bannis scored his second goal, and he later offered an apology for his actions.
The loss of self‑control came immediately after Bannis’ second strike for Vitesse, when Dundas hit the opposing player in the face, prompting the referee to issue the red card without delay.
Trainer Mark Otten expressed no understanding for the behaviour, stating, “He must not do that, because you do not win matches that way,” and noted that Dundas had already apologized and recognised his mistake.
Otten added that the incident harmed the team, the player himself and everyone in the stadium, and he urged that it be treated as a learning moment despite the pain it caused.
The contrast between the violent act and the coach’s emphasis on education highlights Jong FC Utrecht’s commitment to discipline while seeking personal growth for its players.
