Drone interrupts Arsenal‑Fleetwood Cup match, eight minutes quiet

On Tuesday 27 October 2026 the English League Cup‑match between Arsenal and Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium was abruptly halted when a drone hovered over the stadium. Referee Michael Salisbury stopped the game after two minutes, after which an eight‑minute interruption followed. The match was broadcast LIVE and stood at 0‑0.

Drone causes eight‑minute interruption

According to the rules, the game must be stopped for such a safety risk, prompting Salisbury to immediately consult the safety officer, both coaches and several players. Local media reported that the police had located the drone operator within eight minutes, after which the device disappeared. The incident caused bewildered looks among the spectators.

After the interruption the game resumed without further incidents. Arsenal seemed momentarily rattled, but soon found their rhythm again. The match continued with both sides seeking chances.

Goals and cards after the interruption

Twenty‑five minutes after kickoff Aaron Loupalo‑Bi gave Arsenal the lead with a header in the 22nd minute. A quarter of an hour later, in the 51st minute, Viktor Gyökeres equalised for Fleetwood Town. In the 55th minute Crispin McLean received a Yellow, followed by a second Yellow for Jake Batty in the 75th minute and a red card for Max Dowman in the 86th minute.

Substitutions and tactical adjustments

In the 47th minute Jurriën Timber was replaced by Ben White, a substitution Arsenal used to try to stabilise. A minute later Marli Salmon came onto the pitch for Martin Ødegaard, after which the Norwegian midfielder quickly lost the ball again. In the 67th minute Adam Murphy took the place of Crispin McLean, while other substitutions were made under the pressure of the game.

Prior to the kickoff fireworks and other light effects were fired, after which the drone unexpectedly appeared over the stadium. The attending supporters reacted with cheers and confusion, but the broadcast remained live and followed every development closely.

The game then continued to the end of the match, without further interruptions.
