Draw with France keeps Italy barely safe in Lega A

With the draw against France, Italy sits on four points at the end of the first round, equal to the French team and one point behind Belgium. The result keeps the Azzurri virtually safe in League A, avoiding the playouts for now.

Current position and outlook

In the first group the current standings show France in first place with seven points. Belgium occupies second place with six points. Italy is third with four points, while Turkey has no points.

If the group were to finish with these results, France and Belgium would advance to the quarter‑finals. Turkey would be relegated to League B. Italy would remain safe, also avoiding the playouts.

The regulations provide that the top two teams retain their category. The bottom two, however, must play a playoff against a second‑placed team from League B to decide their stay.

Among the third‑placed teams of the four groups, Italy leads with four points in three matches. Germany is second with four points. Norway has three points and Croatia three points in two matches.

Although level on points and with the same goal difference (+1) as Germany, Italy benefits from a higher number of goals scored. It has five goals compared to Germany's three.

Three fixtures remain. On October 5 Italy faces Turkey in Bologna at 20:45. On November 12 Italy challenges France in Milan at 20:45 and on November 15 Italy plays against Belgium in Brussels at 20:45.

Even if Croatia were to win its match, the Azzurri would still be safe in League A for the moment. This is thanks to the advantage in goals scored.
