AC Milan drops out of Champions League on final day
Cagliari stunned AC Milan with a 2-1 win at San Siro on the final matchday, ending Milan's Champions League campaign.
Milan needed a draw to secure their place in next season's group stage after finishing third in Serie A.
Cagliari took the lead through Leonardo Pavoletti in the 15th minute before Rafael Leão equalized for Milan in the 29th.
Pavoletti scored again in the 85th minute to seal the win and relegate Milan to the Europa League.
Milan finished sixth in Serie A, three points behind fifth-placed Atalanta, missing out on next season's Champions League.
Cagliari finished 12th, avoiding relegation by finishing above Empoli on goal difference.
Milan manager Stefano Pioli admitted post-match that his team's performance was "not enough" for Champions League football.
Pavoletti became the first Cagliari player to score twice in a match against Milan since 1993.
