Dowman's magic spell lifts Arsenal to victory over Ipswich

On a sun‑drenched evening at the Emirates Stadium, a young Englishman with a magic wand was seen; the sixteen‑year‑old Max Dowman put the ball in the net twice as Arsenal booked a convincing 4‑2 victory over Ipswich Town in the League Cup.

Arteta gives Dowman start

The Spanish manager Mikel Arteta trusted the sixteen‑year‑old Max Dowman, who broke through at Arsenal last season, with his first starting place of the season. Dowman, a young Englishman, earned the start for The Gunners in the League Cup match against Ipswich Town. The decision paid off after just seven minutes.

Dowman dribbled past the defence of The Tractor Boys and left Cédric Kipré, sometimes simply called Kipr, behind with a feint. The young Englishman then struck simply and scored the first goal of the evening, giving Arsenal a 0‑1 lead.

Not long after, Noni Madueke provided Arsenal's second strike, after good pressing by the Londoners. The duo put the team on a comfortable 0‑2 advantage before halftime.

Jurriën Timber, who featured against Sunderland last weekend, was rested by Arteta and did not start. The Gunners went into the break with a 0‑2 lead.

Dowman continues to surprise in second half

After the break, Dowman again got his chance and scored his second goal, this time with less effort than the opener. Shortly after, Mikel Merino placed a shot from the edge of the penalty area, putting Arsenal 0‑4 ahead.

Ipswich Town did not give up easily; Anis Mehmedi reduced the deficit to 1‑4 and later Chuba Akpom, the former Ajax striker, provided the second goal of the evening, making the final score 2‑4.

With the win, Arsenal secured a place in the fourth round of the League Cup, where sixteen clubs remain. Liverpool also recorded a victory on Tuesday evening, this time against Tottenham Hotspur.
