Dortmund trusts Guirassy‑Silva double‑front, Kovac plans attack

Coach Niko Kovac of Borussia Dortmund sees the next offensive turn in the dual‑striker partnership with Serhou Guirassy and Fabio Silva, as discussed in the Bundesliga Update podcast on 13 September 2026. Both forwards stood side by side from the start, with Guirassy already providing an assist in the fifth minute of play.

Anne Hilt and Jens Walbrodt, the hosts of the “Bundesliga Update” podcast, agree that Serhou Guirassy needs a striking partner by his side. In the episode broadcast on 13 September 2026 under the title “Silva‑Streif on the Horizon”, they discussed the new dual‑striker at BVB. As of: 13 September 2026.

Kovac tests the dual‑striker in the match

Niko Kovac, coach of Borussia Dortmund, could continue to pursue the dual‑striker after the current Bundesliga matchday. He put Guirassy and Fabio Silva together on the pitch from the start for the first time.

“I found it fascinating to see Guirassy as a playmaker,” Anne Hilt said about the forward who had scored 17 goals last season. The fifth minute of play also delivered the first assist, when Guirassy passed the ball to Silva, who then scored.

Walbrodt analyses the role distribution

Jens Walbrodt adds that Guirassy ultimately tries to provide even more assists while also scoring more goals. “This new style of combination makes the Dortmund team’s play more varied,” he says. The duo also showed its impact in the match against SC Paderborn.

In the Champions League appearance against Villarreal, both were only on the pitch together from the 75th minute. The podcast showed that Silva still became active for Guirassy. To conclude the update, Niko emphasized that the dual‑striker should continue to be developed.

Freiburg in the focus of the update

The current episode of the Bundesliga Update also dedicated itself to the rise of SC Freiburg. The club tops the table and has set a new club record with six wins from the first six games. Hilt and Walbrodt discussed which factors lie behind this success.
