Dortmund's Nmecha sparkles while Leverkusen narrowly escape defeat

Dortmund celebrated a third straight Bundesliga win as Felix Nmecha dazzled, while Bayer Leverkusen barely escaped a second defeat at Augsburg, salvaged only by Patrick Schick’s late strike after a 2‑2 draw with the hosts, the German side fought back from an early goal.

Dortmund's clinical victory

On Saturday the Yellow and Black recorded their third consecutive triumph, beating the promoted side Paderborn 3‑0. An early breakthrough came in the fifth minute when Fabio Silva netted, a finish set up by a precise pass from Guirassy. Les Jaune et Noir then added two further goals to seal the win.

Substitute Felix Nmecha made a decisive impact, scoring a sublime strike in the 80th minute after a skilful dribble. He doubled his tally three minutes later, converting an acrobatic volley from a Sabitzer cross. Guirassy struck the post twice and his effort was blocked by Nahuel Noll, while the Guinean forward saw both his goals ruled out for off‑side.

Leverkusen's narrow escape

At Augsburg, le Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2‑2 stalemate, a result that marked their second defeat‑avoiding draw in three matches under Carles Martinez Novell. The Spanish coach, formerly of Toulouse, faced a tense finish before Patrick Schick rescued the side with a decisive goal in the 89th minute.

Earlier in the match Kofane had given Leverkusen the lead in the 63rd minute, but the hosts equalised through two strikes by Gregoritsch. The Spanish side had also conceded goals from the partnership of Moussa Diaby and former Lyon player Afonso Moreira, exposing a degree of defensive frailty.

Fribourg continued their winning run, delivering a 5‑0 demolition of Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Franco‑Congolese Jordy Makengo’s teammates highlighted the performance with double braces from Matanovic and Engelhardt, the latter scoring against his former club. The departure of Johan Manzambi for €60 million to Aston Villa has not yet been felt.

Noah Atubolu demonstrated his penalty‑saving prowess, denying his sixth consecutive spot‑kick in the Bundesliga at the 43rd minute against Nadiem Amiri. The 24‑year‑old German keeper, on loan from Fribourg to Eintracht Frankfurt, later saw teammate Jonathan Burkardt score the opening goal against his former side.

Eintracht Frankfurt, under Adi Hutter, celebrated their first victory of the season with a 3‑1 win, confirming Atubolu’s influence between the posts. The match underscored the contrasting fortunes of Dortmund’s rising confidence and Leverkusen’s lingering vulnerability.

The juxtaposition of Dortmund’s seamless attacking display and Leverkusen’s narrow survival highlights a league where momentum can shift dramatically, setting the stage for the next round of Bundesliga fixtures.
