Dortmund pulls purchase option on Veerman as midfield reshuffle begins
In a swift move on Tuesday morning, Borussia Dortmund (BVB) exercised the Kaufoption on Eindhoven's Veerman, securing the 27‑year‑old midfielder from PSV Eindhoven with a contract running to 30 June 2031. The transfer, announced by the Westfalen club on Dienstagvormittag, reportedly involves around 22 Millionen Euro flowing back to the Netherlands.
Purchase option exercised
Die Kaufoption bei Joey Veerman war nur noch wenige Tage gültig, wurde aber rechtzeitig gezogen, confirming that the club acted within the narrow window. Vernehmen zufolge the fee sits near 22 Millionen Euro, a figure that reflects the player’s status as a regular in the Dutch national team.
Contract and squad impact
Veerman will wear the number 25 shirt for Borussia Dortmund and adds a 16‑time international (ein Länderspieltor) to the central midfield pool. The club’s focus on the Mittelfeldzentrum this summer, explained Geschäftsführer Sport Lars Ricken, aims to replace the departures of Pascal Groß and Salih Özcan and to integrate Emre Can back into the defensive line.
Mulder predicts Dortmund’s smart move with Joey Veerman
While Felix Nmecha and Jobe Bellingham remain entrenched in the midfield, the arrival of Veerman pushes Marcel Sabitzer down to fourth choice, with Carney Chukwuemeka, Mussa Kaba and Enzo dos Santos also listed as alternatives. Sabitzer’s high salary and recent rumors of a move to FC Bologna add further complexity to Dortmund’s transfer calculations.
Wider transfer activity
Veerman is the sixth Neuzugang for the Borussen this summer. Earlier in the Woche, Giannis Konstantelias was introduced as the second new signing, following the arrivals of South American talents Justin Lerma and Kaua Prates, as well as Joane Gadou. Konstantinos Karetsas and Giannis Konstantelias, both young Greeks, also joined the squad.
Welkom in Dortmund, Joey! The club’s social media welcomed the midfielder, underscoring the excitement surrounding the Wechsel and the strategic strengthening of the Mittelfeld and overall Spiel plan.
