Dortmund ask Greece to curb Karetsas after Nations League strain

Borussia Dortmund have formally asked the Greek Football Federation to limit 18‑year‑old Konstantinos Karetsas’s minutes against Germany, fearing the heavy workload could jeopardise his progress ahead of their Bundesliga clash with Werder Bremen on 9 October after he started all three Nations League games for Greece.

Strong club start prompts caution

Karetsas has made a promising start at Borussia Dortmund, logging 164 Bundesliga minutes and creating one goal. Sky Germany reported that the club’s hierarchy view his early contributions as a sign of potential. The 18‑year‑old’s involvement has therefore attracted close monitoring.

BVB’s management have written to the Greek Football Federation, asking that Karetsas be used sparingly in the upcoming clash with Germany. They cite the heavy workload he endured in recent weeks as the reason for the request. The appeal also considers Dortmund’s Bundesliga fixture against Werder Bremen on 9 October.

National team duties raise workload concerns

The youngster has started all three of Greece’s UEFA Nations League fixtures this campaign. Greek media, cited by Sky Germany, suggest he will be named in the line‑up against Germany. Dortmund acknowledge his importance to the national side but hope to limit his minutes.

Karetsas only recently returned from an injury, prompting further caution from the club. Another Greece international, Giannis Konstantelias, is out with an ACL injury suffered against Hamburg on Matchday 1. The dual setbacks leave Dortmund keen to protect his rising star.

Dortmund will continue to liaise with the Greek FA to ensure the player’s workload is managed. Their priority remains safeguarding Karetsas while maintaining his contribution to both club and country.
