Done Deal: Lazio lock up free‑agent danilho Doekhi

Danilho Doekhi has touched down in Rome to join Lazio as a free agent, signing a three‑year contract that runs until June 2029 after his Union Berlin deal expired. The defender’s move was confirmed as a Done Deal, ending his spell in Germany.

The defender was filmed this afternoon landing at the airport in the Eternal City, where he was whisked to a meeting to finalise the agreement. He is already undergoing medical tests before putting pen to paper on the three‑year deal.

Doekhi, who turned 28 a few weeks ago, became a free agent when his Union Berlin contract ran out on June 30. His career includes spells at Ajax and Vitesse before moving to Germany for free in the summer of 2022.

The player is the nephew of former Milan star Winston Bogarde, giving him a personal link to Serie A. This connection adds a familiar narrative to his transition to Italian football.

Lazio are actively rebuilding their back line after selling Mario Gila to Milan and arranging the transfer of Alessio Romagnoli to Al‑Sadd, a deal that has yet to be finalised. The arrival of Doekhi provides immediate depth as the club seeks to shore up its defence.

For Lazio, Doekhi offers a versatile option to strengthen a depleted defensive roster ahead of the new season. For the Dutch centre‑back, the contract to June 2029 secures his first Serie A experience and a long‑term platform in the Eternal City.
