Dominant Salzburg must settle for a draw in Ried
On Friday evening, Red Bull Salzburg met SV Ried at the BWT Oberösterreichische Arena in Ried. The superior Salzburg side scored the opening goal in the 84th minute through Karim Konaté, while Philipp Pomer equalised to 1‑1 just two minutes later. In front of 6,041 spectators the duel ended without a winner.
Salzburg's pressure on the top of the table
The Bulls did not get beyond a 1‑1 draw and therefore missed the leap to the top of the table. This leaves Salzburg one point behind the LASK second‑placed side and currently sitting in eighth place. The missing win means that no winner emerged from the duel in the Innviertel.
UWE WINTER in the Innkreis
The squad of coach Danny Röhl arrived at the start of the 6th round after six consecutive league wins. Despite seven changes, the core formation remained unchanged, as the recent 5‑1 home win against Rapid was not taken into account. The visitors relied on the starting eleven and trusted the experience of their players.
Compared to the 2‑3 loss in Hartberg, in defence Dejan Radonjic (for Lukas Malicsek) and Philipp Pomer (for Oliver Sorg) as well as midfielder Martin Rasner (for Evan Eghosa Aisowieren) were included in the starting eleven. The Bulls opted from the start for an attacking game, while the Ried side barely left their own half.
Red Bull Salzburg dominated the proceedings, fired off 14 shots, while the Ried side registered not a single shot. Despite the high intensity, the game remained goalless until halftime, and the spectators witnessed an intense league match in the Innkreis.
In the second half, Karim Konaté scored the only goal for Salzburg in the 84th minute, but Philipp Pomer equalised only two minutes later. Further chances were created by Jesper Lindström, Damir Redzic and Vertessen, yet the score remained unchanged. The name Konat also appears in the match report.
Coach Danny Röhl commented after the game: "From an emotional standpoint it's naturally disappointing; regarding the pitch I can make few criticisms of the team, essentially only that we were not very efficient. We played the chances very well, against an opponent who stood very compact and waited for individual moments. We were patient until just before the end and then we scored the goal at the right moment, as you as a coach would like. Then you have to get through the first minutes after the goal, we get a corner and then it falls in. So it ends up 1‑1. That's football."
